What no mention of twitter as a coral reef? Dave Winer is disappointed.

Come join the Ireland channel on Jaiku and we'll work out the push technology where relevant tidbits push onto jaiku.com/channel/ireland and maybe even an Irish phone number that lets you text directly to jaiku.

Agreed.
Depends on the needs and is also subjective.

Ina,
I think maybe there are different degrees of utility and relevance depending on contact. For example, I might well be interested in random gossip relating to a close friend; whereas I've little interest in what Leo Laporte got up to at the weekend, much as I like to keep up to date on his tech opinions.

Hi Gareth,

We will see more focus on specific channels for specific communities of interest for sure. The general channels in Twitter are of really no use unless the information in them is specific. If you go through the tweets many of them can be very banal and of total irrelevance to your needs.Ive currently subscribed to the Supernova channel on Jaiku to follow the Supernova conference that is currently on in San Francisco. These attention grabbing channels are only useful if they help with your needs.Tweets can be informative only if they are relevant.

Very thorough review of the current situation with Twitter Gareth. Interestingly Jaiku have just launched Channels which provide some of the group functionality you describe. Already there are channels for Limerick and Dublin :)

Having played with twitter for a radio review, I'm still happily signed up.

The unique contribution it makes is the text message.

I think that its mainstream use will be for broadcast out on a topic. It still needs a way to seperate blocks of users to get your message (a family group, a friends group etc).

Suppose I want to know when gigs by a band are on. Or breaking news on a particular niche (irishpolitics from the irishelection guys is a good example). That's when the text message comes into its own.
